Anyway you're probably just having some network issues. The gradient is an image, and if it doesn't load it falls back to a black background, which is what you're seeing.

I'll also note that the dev team usually works on functionality, not design. If you want to cast snide remarks, just append `> /dev/null` so we can filter them into the appropriate place, thanks :3
