Most likely tech restrictions. Or they just don't want people having huge ass Gifs.

Possibly because if multiple with such a big gif would post in the same thread it would cause mayor lag and internet problems.

It's not tech restrictions, we used to have unlimited size gifs. They just wanted to reduce the time it takes to load pages.

It was a bit unnecessary, but I guess it worked ok.
<Faint> the rules have been stated quite clearly 3 times now from high staff
