how does the add items thing work? everytime i press an item in there it just turns blue thats all it does so how does it work? someone tell me

it didnt help at all i meant how to select items

Simply click on the item's name on the list you see near "Add items", if you want to select more of them hold ctrl button and select items you want. If it turns blue, you are doing it right.

If it's blue, it's selected, if you want to select multiple items you can hold CTRL and click on multiple items.
