What's the difference between regular and bumpmap textures?

bumpmap textures make your texture have a 3d feel to it

So would that make it any harder to make for texture artists or does it automatically add the bumps to any pre-made texture?

you gotta do it yourself to add the texture, im not too sure on how to do it but it doesnt look that difficult

So regular flat textures won't look 3D?
