If I was going to give a Zelda game to an old school gamer, it'd be A Link to the Past.
If I was going to give a mario game, probably Super Mario 2
For Megaman... idk. I've heard good things about Megaman X
PERSONALLY, if I was an old school gamer, I'd like Link to the Past the most of those options

If he has a gamecube (or wii), i'd say majora's mask or wind waker.
Might be a good idea to check what he's played before, if he has a GBA and is a zelda fan, he's bound to have played link to the past. Same with gamecube and wind waker. Majora's mask is a safer bet.
Also yeah, sonic advance <3 I'll add spyro: Attacks of the rhynocs to that.
Or you could just go for Cave Story, if he has a 3DS.
