Torn City is truly the best online text based game I've played, and I'd like to see more people whom I know (and don't know) from this community playing it.
You start out living in a shack with what seems little to do and no way to get yourself up off the ground in any respect. Be prepared for a long struggle, because Torn City is one of the few games you're actually going to have to commit yourself to if you want to be any good at all.
There are numerous ways to occupy yourself to begin with, performing petty crimes (stealing and selling CDs, mugging people) to wandering around the city and visiting the shops, seeing the auctions, looking over properties, mugging/hospitalising/assaulting people online, buying weapons of all sorts, travelling abroad and so on. You could get yourself a job, get involved in a faction (gang), get your money playing the machines at the casino, betting in the bookies, and as you continue down the road of crime and foul play you can open up darker roads and opportunities, of which I'll let you find out yourselves.
There's nothing like this game (that I have heard of), and I wish I could explain this all better. The best way to find out is to experience it yourself. I'll do as much as I can to answer any questions and help you guys on the way if you are going to take this game as a regular thing.
