As title says, if there is a maximum amount of characters that you can write on thread's first post, what is? Or in a post in general...

I remember something about 5,000 words somewhere, it might be private message...

5000 is in PMs, i think it isn't the same for posts.

cant remember, but there is is a character limit, ive hit it once or twice befor.
it takes alot of work to max out though, its high enough that you're not likely to hit it.

5,000 max characters for Private Messages.
100,000 max characters for Posts.

Edit: 100,000 max characters for the Original Post (OP/Threads First Post etc) as well.

That's actually a lot. Seems that i dont have to worry about it.
