Flexible Muscle-Based Locomotion for Bipedal Creatures
http://vimeo.com/79098420

Toribash really got me interested on muscle/joint combined interactions to achieve intended movements, so I'm guessing some people here might find this video pretty amazing.

From my understanding, they created a model that self-optimizes the use of its musculature for locomotion taking into account the characteristics of its body, developing a certain gait based on that.

Meaning that the "computer" finds the best way to "walk" from scratch, perfecting it by successive mistakes. It wasn't told simply "this goes here, and this goes here" like it happens in most animations (from what I assume).

Pretty damn cool imo

We're still kids in buses longing to be free.
This is an extremely cool thing. The final animations are very lifelike, and yet, they're also adaptible! I really hope we'll be seeing this technology in future games, because that would be fucking amazing. Especially the dinosaurs. We can always mo-cap humans (as funky as it occasionally may be), but we have no points of reference for dinosaur locomotion. This can at least generate a legitimate working gait for them. :0

edit: also the outtakes are fucking priceless
