You can upload an image to the flame particle item and that will be the flame, you can change the amount size and stuff like that, im pretty sure you can change the hue as well...
if you give the image translucency and it isnt square you could make different shapes i guess.

they give the individual particles a texture, or image, of what is uploaded to the item.
like if you upload a square, you'll get little square particles.. etc..
