Yea, the ban reason - for the purposes of the public - is whatever the public ban reason is.
If you want to know more then find a way to contact the banned person. Moderators don't like being bugged about this and 99.9% of the time they're in no reasonable position to explain to you anyway since it's private to the user involved. Sorry bud, look for him on facebook or something.
