Do you have to be staff to get oh or half op on IRC?
Or can a non-staff member get it?

You just need to be there, IRC and forum are totally different.

I am sure if you are there doing productive things and not causing more problems you could get it over time.

But usually you would want to be a mod for irc op.

It depends on the IRC channel. If it's your channel, you're obligatoriously going to be the op; if it's the Support channel, you have to be staff to be op.
