Everbash Toriboxing FAQ/Help
This thread is to inform everyone about toriboxing techniques and styles that can be used in the league as well as detailed descriptions of each division and training mods that can be used to hone your skills.

Let's start off easy:

STATS:

Middleweight AKA Boxer Type - This division is specialized for league boxers who desire a high amount of power in their punches with minimal risk but still allow a decent amount of speed in their movement. A favorite amongst most boxers because of the good balance/power ratio and has a high amount of defense as well.

This style allows boxers to parry punches but because of the large arms, effectively guard against punches to nullify injuries sustained.

Offensive: Heavy Uppercuts and Hooks

Defensive: All defensive techniques (Parries, Blocks and Dodging)

Lightweight AKA Fighter - This division is specialized who like to stay low and use lower body strength in their punches. It allows boxers to move freely and fast punches prevent other boxers from anticipating the attack before it occurs. Another favorite because of the torque that can be generated into each punch from the lower body. Very effective at dodging and parrying punches but blocking a punch head on is not the best idea due to the open guard and body.

Offensive: Jabs, Straights, Body Uppercuts, Inside Hooks

Defensive: Parries, Counter Punching, Dodging and Weaving

Next up,

Offensive and Defensive Techniques

Offensive and Defensive techniques in Toriboxing can be generalized over both divisions. Most people tend to throw punches hoping they will hit to get an early lead and put pressure on the opponent. This is good in some cases but usually these people have a hard time staying on their feet due to the volume of punches thrown without a stable stance.

Orthodox Boxers (such as me) tend to try to capitalize on the opponents mistakes and attack accordingly by using parrying and counter punching to wear away at the opponents defenses and morale. This is also a good technique but by getting timing and angling wrong in your defenses, you can become taken over by the opponent easily.

This is why it's important to find a balance between Strategy and Pure Aggression and thus, create your own style of boxing.

Some techniques which Aggressive Boxers include:

Staying Low

An "orthodox" boxer's worst nightmare due to the lack of predictablity in the opponents punches. Staying Low is usually achieved by stepping forward and leaning back in the opening turn while winding up the first punch. This can throw the other boxer off balance which can be easily capitalized on as they have to resort to defense.

Haymakers

Basically a windup followed by an open arm hook with devastating power. This can be dodged or parried on most cases but most boxers change the direction of the punch last minute so it's usually best to attack before they can attack or get out of the way completely.

These techniques are very effective in some cases but usually result in unbalanced movement which can ultimately lead to defeat because recovery isn't immediate from each punch

Some techniques Orthodox Boxers use include:

Dodging/Weaving

By alternating glute movement as well as lumbar,ab and head movement, an effective means of defense without losing a stable stance can be difference between victory and defeat. This is very effective due to the torque that can be produced by the same movement truly making "Defense the best Offence".

Parrying

A Pro boxer technique where the boxer slips by the punch and pushes the arm away to throw the opponent off balance and counter effectively. One of the best techniques because of the holes in the opponent's defense after a successful parry and combined with effective movement, you can win the match just by parrying and moving away.

Inside Hooks

By getting inside and eliminating the haymakers from the opponent, effective inside hooks can be devastating while getting minimal damage. Extra torque is generated by the chest due to the contracted elbow rather than a extended arm. Also, the hook can be very accurate and "cancelled" very easily without leaving holes in your defense.

Next section is,

Movement

Most boxers have trouble with movement and they blame the balance system. This is not the case because the balance system helps more than it hurts. Boxers usually try to "force the issue" and move erratically and forcefully expecting to move somewhere. Movement in Toriboxing is easiest when the movements are suttle. Usually, the five main joints used for movement are:

Glutes: Maintain a stable stance and change direction quickly

Chest: Change Direction most effectively

Ankles: Start off movement and control speed

Hips: Main joints for walking

Abs: Control Height

I usually begin walking by contracting my ankles and extending abs to move forward followed by alternating hips and relaxed knees. The glutes make changing direction very easy also. People usually panic when they begin to fall over and contract their knees to compensate. This isn't a good idea so the best idea is to extend both glutes to recapture your stance.

A special movement technique most boxers do not use is Dashing.

A simple way to dash is by extend your back ankle as you step. You can gain extra speed to come back and also extra torque generated into your punch.

FAQ/Insight

Why does the chest break randomly sometimes?

It used to break more often but as time progresses, I see this happen less and less frequently. It happens most often when boxers punch randomly and carelessly. In a way, I believe chest fracture represent a means of "stamina" in Toriboxing. If you punch carelessly and wildly, you are more prone to fracture which simulates losing stamina when punching. Also, when getting punched in the chest, it's similar to getting "winded" and losing stamina which results in chest fractures.

Is the balance system really necessary in the mods?

I believe it is really necessary. It provides an authentic boxing feel and "order" when fighting. Also, it creates a new fighting experience in the game by discouraging kicks and allowing strategic movement in order to win one fight. It also keeps the boxers up which can result in amazing slugfests in a short amount of time

Why are the ropes so bouncy?

The ropes create a new aspect to the boxing experience because they can be used to come back very quickly or you can force your opponent into the ropes to cause destructive injury.

Training Mods

Here's a series of training mods which you can use to hone your skills

Heavy Bag- Plain and Simple Punching Bag to practise combos and recovering from recoil.

Combo Dummy- Colour-coded dummy used to practise targeting punches on vital spots.

Green(head)- Most common target and one of the most important parts to protect. You can start a combo in the body region to throw off the opponent's defense to land a blow on the head.

Red(Neck and Chest)- The two most important parts to protect. A Clean shot on the neck will most likely result in 60000+ points and the chest is needed for strength and accuracy in your punches.

Yellow(Pecs)- Easy to defend but are a very critcal part to your offense and defense.

Orange(Lumbar and Abs) Very invulnerable to injury but when hit can throw off opponent's defense and stability.

Blue(Sides) Strong but almost always knock you off balance when hit by a hook.

Dodge Dummy- Spinning rods on a dummy to practise counter punching after dodging/parrying.
