I believe it was possible to get prieviews of your textures ingame without actualy having the texture items. Is this still possible and how? If it is still possible, is it possible for both 128x, 256x and 512x?

Yeah, save the image file in TarGA (.tga) format in your custom folder without RLE compression. (You should be able to toggle this when saving your file) Make sure the names are right. For example, save the head texture as "head.tga", the left foot as "l_foot.tga", etcetera.

Yes, this works for all three of those sizes.
