do you have the latest java installed?

Make sure you have the minecraft version for YOUR specific computer type (windows, mac, vista, etc.)

If that doesn't work, make sure that your java is updated, try re-installing Minecraft as well. Make sure your computer firewalls are also allowing the program to run.
