We once had a storm and a scaffolding pole went right through The King's buildings, which is one of the many Edinburgh University buildings. That was fun, went right through the Chemistry section.

That could have been bad if it smashed any bottles of chemicals that didn't mix well. Or just if there was a box of cesium that got knocked over.

iirc there was a lot of mercury contamination and a prolonged clean up was put into effect.

That sounds about as tame as it could have gone. Nothing is gonna grow on that patch of land for a while, but considering there's a building on top of it, that won't be an issue.
