Pirating Minecraft is impossible.

The software is free, you can download the alpha client without logging in. You can play single player without an account.

There is no way to connect to a multiplayer server without an account (unless it is using custom verification of course, however this method is not pirating).

In short, you cannot pirate software that is free to download.

Beta is not free, though.

I would agree that, since this is a independent game, and a greatly innovative one at that, that Notch deserves his well-earned pay. But I wouldn't say it's wrong to pirate a game, see if you like it, and then buy it afterwards... I'm going to stop here, because I feel a ban coming on.

Except he loses probably more than half of that because of Swedish tax.

Even if it is a large amount of money that doesn't mean it's not well earned. If you made a game that 1 million people loved and paid for, you'd feel like you didn't earn it?
