I'm not sure if these are just early 2000s or actually animd, but Black Jack was good. There was another anime about mermaids giving you immortality but it will most likely turn you into a freak. And then another about biomutants that had like a specific body part that's engineered to be superhuman. I think MC had big ass arms. Sorry for not remembering names. I watched these when 90's anime weren't old.
