Not really... people have been building catalyst into a chalice now, since blue buff got nerfed (and you should always try to have blue buff on anivia when possible) and ignite helps your burst damage. Clarity is just a crutch to save your horrible mana management.

Anivia is manahungry. Clarity is fucking bad on anything other than aram.

No character is mana hungry if you use appropriate mana management. Anivia has high costs for her spells, but that just means you have to make every spell count and play it safer until you have a larger mana pool or more regen to work with.

I've played Anivia ALOT and honestly there is no reason to use her abilities in lane. Her auto attack works great for me. Leaves you enough mana to wall to escape or to ensure a kill when your ally is ganking.

Only time I find Anivia mana hungry is when all my inhibs are down and i'm the only one there to clear all the creeps.
