Its not bad for your first , the bloody eye sockets is a nice idea. What do u use gimp/mspaint/photoshop? I find adding a spherical gradient can make a head pop out abit more aswell as focusing attention on the face and adding variation to flat colour areas, sort of acting like a cheap ambient occlusion.

I don't really like giving rating figures on arty things as its more styles and personal preference.

A little bit more shading and some more details on the hair, will make it better
