Life is a game of chess. We are all just pieces to a higher objective, with only the illusion of individual meaning. There are two different teams, separated by an invisible barrier that draws the line in society dividing people who are at heart similar. We are all the same, but life has forced the idea upon us that we are different, so we mindlessly follow orders, and do what we are told. We don’t question the supreme rule, and that which controls us.
The variety of pieces resembles the chain of command and how it is associated with diversity. The pawns are the overwhelming majority, with little purpose, and commonly used as a shield and given up as sacrifice for their leaders. They are pawns, and nothing more. Those who don’t give the effort and think differently will forever be stuck at the bottom, never reaching their real potential. They are perfectly content with going to work, getting married, having some kids, paying their taxes, paying their bills, watching their TV, following fashion, acting normal, and obeying the law. And after all that they just sit still and say “I am free.” Meanwhile, while the common people busy themselves with their everyday activities, there are knights. Knights have realized what life really is, and have taken this knowledge and have taken a step above all the rest. These knights are more successful in life, but never make their true mark on the world, or board, before their life is over. In time they shall be forgotten, and life will go on without remembering them. Then there are bishops. Bishops have made it clear to the world they are superior. In their life they have accomplished great things, and shall not go down without making people know their name. Their actions have made the world what is today, be it positively or negatively. They have influence, and shall not be overlooked. Then near the top of the ladder lies the rooks. They are similar to the bishops before them, but slightly higher on the chain of power. Sitting happily at their thrones, the king and queen send out all these other pieces to do their work. At this point, the pawns aren’t even part of the equation, just a disposable icon of life. This royalty aren’t concerned with the welfare of the pieces, and just use them to do their work. Although they may be seen as lazy, they are in their position of power due to their intelligence. Their minds grasp the concepts that millions of others don’t, and manipulate those millions as they please. The world is a different place to leaders such as these.
Now to most people, the line would appear to stop there, with the king and queen being the unchallenged rulers. But for those who dare to look beyond that question who is controlling the royalty themselves. This is how the concept of religion was made. Without an explanation for this being of unimaginable power, some created their own version of this player. This player was designed to be a supreme overseer of the board, and also be the creator of it. But there are two sides to every argument. It can also be said that the “player”, or controller of everything, doesn’t exist, and the pieces divided up into groups and made them how they are themselves.
It is one’s own decision to choose what they want to believe, but some things are facts. And these facts are that society is divided up by classes of power. There are different pieces, or types of people. There will always be mindless pawns, and there will always be rulers who take advantage of this. Life is nothing more than a game of chess.
