I tried Maokai when he was free, he was pretty good IMO. Kind of underplayed though.

Trundle is a fine jungler and a decent ganker. Don't need red buff or anything just his slow. He falls off REALLY hard lategame unless you know how to properly use his ult. Best played as a tank/soak.

trundle is a fucking win against gp solotop or jungle
or against a tanky team.. he also needs a nice team to fit in i had a failgame with him today thx to an ap kog mid who fucked everything up in his engagement ...

i like trundle hes a viable pick as a jungler in my opinion ... tried him in mid once works quite okay but not optimum

Trundle's got some #1 counterjungling skills, but after the initial jungling phase he becomes worthless unless he gets really fed, in which case his late game is fucking terrifying, but that rarely (never) happens

Trundle seems pretty fun early game because of his ability to push the other jungler around a bit. He also seems like a great solo top depending on the other champion in the lane. But if he really does fall off late game, then why not just build him as a tank with light cc in his build (Frozen Heart, Randuin's Omen)?
