Bavaria, Munich (Germany) One hour trip to get to some fine ski resorts:

Add 1 hour to the trip, and you will find some of the best ski resorts the Alps have to offer ;)

Ah, so I see. Also, that sounds like a lot of fun.
I'm not so much into those sorts of things, or much in the way of the outdoors, but it still sounds like a good getaway,

What other sorts of activities like that do you do?

Any kind of outdoor activities, during winter, it's alpine skiing and Ski touring. If there ain't any snow outside, it's hiking or mountainbiking (if possible, multi-day trips). Having everything you need to survive for a couple of days on your back is just a great feeling

That sounds like it'd be a really great experience. Do you know some wilderness survival skills, or do you pack most of what you'd need?

Well, survival is mostly based on preparation. But there are some things, pretty vital to know, like where to find water (and in some cases, make it drinkable first) or how to light a fire and make a "cooking stove" in bad conditions like rain/wind (in case your are running out of spiritus).

And some basic knowledge about eatable things, wherever you go (like mushrooms, herbs and fruits).

You don't need to be a survival specialist to get around in the wild and have fun for a few days without civilization

And always (but only) pack what's most needed, you don't want to carry any unnecessary balast with you, the backpack will be heavy enough already ;)

So I see. ^^ Say, do you ever go out and live in the wilderness for a bit with family or friends, or is it something that you do primarily on your own?
