Why are "Introduce Yourself" threads allowed, but "Good-bye/Leaving" threads not? Aren't they pretty much the same things?

Introduction threads are necessary for the users to introduce themselves to the community, which is important so they don't feel left out or neglected or depressed or forlorn.

"Goodbye threads" are too sappy/idiotic to be taken seriously, therefore they aren't permitted.

Not to mention that they're generally pretty useless.
