I like the people that play old 80's and 90's games and call themselves "hard core gamers". Though I do suppose they have a right to their own opinion.
To me, gamers are just laid back and play really whatever they like, and whilst they do this, they don't really care what other people think.
I'd consider myself a gamer, I've spent like, 350 playing TF2 on a comp, with about 125 hours in Dawn of war. A gamer to me, will talk about games from time to time, but not like;
"hey man, I got a random knife kill in cod"
"cool man! I ran over some guy in halo and right after that, I exploded"
"cool..."
"..."
"did you hear that new rush albem-"
*ahem. If you are hardcore gamer, great. If you're a casual gamer, cool. If you know a lot about a game, sweet. Just, don't let it take over your life.

Maybe by your meaning by gamer, you mean someone serious into gaming, doing competitions, like clg or some other stuff (league of legends talk here :P) and play for money and what not. To me a gamer is anyone who plays games often, or daily.
A serious hardcore gamer to me is one that can play all games, is good at all games, and is very serious about gaming, but I get bumples (you don't wanna know what that is), so I can't game every day of my whole life, maybe like 3 weeks then one week off, then just repeat the process.

If we play with the thoughts that the console was released before you could even play a decent game on your pc, sure it existed, it did, but it wasn't popular, people didn't see a gaming future on the pc.thats differ from the consoles.
I play games on the pc's like others, but serious, pc's is a tool , like an hammer or whatever, i have a big interests in computers but not in pc games.
Tell me one early game in the late 80's on a pc worth playing today, or was worth playing then , the pc gaming generation is pretty new, console gaming generation been here since the early 80's. people started to really get their interests in playing the pong-like games.
