So true. AMD is unbeatable when it comes to price vs performance ratio.

You can build a wonderful AMD-based computer up to today's standards with a relatively small budget. Getting an equivalent such as the Intel i5 or even i7 will cost you anything like twice as much... i5 and i7 boards are way too expensive to start with.. then the CPUs themselves are far from cheap...

Something like this is a wonderful rig:
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 965 AM3 Black Edition Rev.2 - 276€
Motherboard: Asus M4A89GTD PRO/USB3 - 110€
RAM: GSKILL PC3-12800 4GB ECO CL7 (2x2GB) DDR3 - 120€
GPU: Gigabyte Radeon HD5850 OC 1GB GDDR5 PCI-E - 265€
HDD: Samsung SpinPoint F3 500GB 7200RPM 16MB SATA 3.5 - 50€
DVD drive: Samsung DVD-RW SH-S223C SATA Black Bulk - 18€
Case: Thermaltake Element T - 65€
PSU: Corsair HX-650 650W (7 year warranty, 85% efficiency) - 120€

All for: 1024€

Not completely true.
AMD is better with money up to a certain point. But when it hits that point(i5) then intel wins. You can get a nice i5 for only 200$.
That would be a lie..... AMD is economically better all the way through. Intel is just better, but WAY overpriced. For example: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115215 vs. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103851.... dont tell me the i5 is better. another example: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103849 vs. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115130 AMD still wins, even with their most expensive processor.
<Shlimby> lol, no Ad, just stop seeing those melons
<ADTerminal> Sure
<Shlimby> and dont take them into ur bed at night

Dude and thats only the CPU... Now compare the boards and that will show even more discrepancy! AM3 boards with Sata 6Gbps and USB 3 are much cheaper than Boards with sockets for the i5 and i7 processors with similar specs.

That i5 you posted, I have it, and it SELF overclocks to 3.1ghz so yeah, it's better. And I could still overclock it more without it heating up at all, but last time I overclocked something I went way overboard and fried it so I'm not going to.

The second set you posted, the AMD one isn't even in stock yet. 2nd, 3rd, 4th generation is always cheaper than 1st generation. That's why it's better and cheaper. EX. The first i7's were 1000+$ now they're down to 280$.

But in all truth whatever you use is better in your own mind, yes, some have their perks but they also have their downspots.

EDIT: Oh the AMD one is 6x..... ok you might be right on that one. However things aren't optimized for 6 cores and it gets rather redundant.(not for 8 cores on the i7 either)

1 - My advise: Don't use a green HDD as an operative system HDD. They're slower. Use another type of HDD for the system HDD. But you can get a green HDD for dedicated storage (secundary HDD), if you download a lot.
2 - Where is the RAM?
3 - I don't know about you but I wouldn't trust an OEM PSU... Better not underestimate the importance of a PSU.
