Check out my Youtube!
This is what I said before. This thread is going down the tubes becuase everybody has their opinion on metal. I listen to alot lot lot heaiver music than this. And I consider Slayer the only heavyish metal band out of the list. I think that Linkin Park is alternative rock, Becuase that is my opinion. You see where I'm getting with this?

As for that poll:
Metallica is Thrash Metal (Years ago it was Trash Metal... It sounds more like Heavy now)
Iron Maiden is the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (It was Heavy metal...)
Black Sabbath is Early Metal(Heavy To Me)
Judas Priest is a bit special but can also be Early Metal (Heayvy To Me)
Dio is Power Metal (So so)
Megadeth is Thrash Metal
I'm not familiar with Saxon
ACDC is Hard Rock (Some musics are like Heavy...)
Slayer is Thrash Metal

Fixed
Read again, they're all Heavy Metal. I'm merely showing that no band can be called a Heavy Metal band without being affiliated to a subgenre of Heavy metal. That's why you can't exclude New Metal, Power Metal etc.
Have wikipedia article:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heavy_metal_subgenres
It's pretty accurate imo and agrees with my cathegories (e.g. Dio)

Begging your pardon?

Isn't Heavy metal a Sub-genre itself. I thought This all branched off of rock?

No.
Heavy Metal was born from blues which was bor from jazz which was born from gospel which was born from African music.
That doesn't mean each one is a subgenre of the previous one since there is a clear distinction between Blues and Heavy metal (the most obvious one being distortion).
It does have a relation with rock since rock comes from jazz and has some blues influences but they're not directly related.
