from experience i think it works in opera and mozilla firefox but not in chrome

It works in chrome for me, but, mobile browsers such as silk can't cope and just show the code.

i gathered from a few users in the irc that these particular browsers filter the thing but apparently its not true. it still doesnt work for me in chrome though

Yeah it has nothing to do with browsers. The servers are just a bit wonky when it comes to this particular type of update. Some people will see it right away, others wont.
