I'm a mid player transferring to jungle, is there a certain pattern I have to follow? Like 'Blue, wolves, gank, wraiths, red, gank, repeat' or is it purely based on what fits the moment?

well, with the new jungle changes, it's pretty standard for the first clear.
start blue/red
then rush to red/blue
gank
do small camps when you cant gank/waiting to gank a certain area.
that's about it.

You can only rush the next big camp if you get enough help to preserve smite on the first one. Your smite won't come up in time for the second one, and very few champs can stand going to the second big camp right after the first one without it, even with level 2.
