IL-2 Sturmovik Is a realistic flight simulator based in the WWII era. The game is named after the
Ilyushin Il-2 which was a very popular Russian ground attack plane , and is the 3rd most produced aircraft to date. The 1946 version is the pack which contains all of the expansion packs, including a 'forgotten battles' pack which adds weird and wonderful experimental superplanes and wunderwaffes.

It's also recommended you have a flightstick or joystick to play with , as it is much easier to pilot the plane with one. You will also need the program "Hyperlobby" to get online , as the vanilla matchmaking is extremely underdeveloped.
The game is really good for an old title. It has many planes to chose from , ranging from 10 year old heavy opentop bombers (TB-3) to quick jet interceptors (Ta-183) to old workhorses of the war like the Hurricane , Spitfire , F4F , Yak 3 and the BF 109. It has dynamically generated campaigns as well as single missions. The difficulty is very changeable , meaning the game can range from an extremely realistic combat sim to a Microsoft Flight-esque experience.
What are your opinions on this game? What is your favourite plane? What joystick/flightstick do you have?
